5 Best Home Improvements For Plumbing

Well, here I am, 40 years later at the tail end of a two-year project to install city sewers in my sub-division. I’ve been very fortunate in that I’ve really never had any major issues with my septic tank over the years. I attribute that to regular treatments of a live bacteria enzyme along with good luck. Every one of my neighbors experienced many problems with their systems over the years and in some cases had to have their septic tanks replaced or at minimum pumped on a regular basis. By regular I mean every three months or so, the normal time interval for a pumping would be a year. The problem is that everyone including myself had their washing machines emptying into their septic tanks which in the septic world is the kiss of death! When the soap from the washing machine cools down, it solidifies causing the holes in the leaching pit to clog and allowing the water to back into the septic tank and then into the house. Not a very pretty sight! Eventually, everyone started to divert the washing machine waste in some creative ways. Some had dry wells installed in their backyards while others ran a 3″ piece of p.v.c. pipe under their front lawns and out thru the curb into the street.

No Cold Showers: because the water is heated up as you need it, there’s no running out and no chilly showers. By comparison, a 50-gallon electrical storage water heater can take over an hour to entirely recuperate the warm water. Lasts Longer: most tankless units have a 10-15 year warranty and can last approximately 20 years before needing replacement. Storage tank devices generally have a 6-year warranty and only last 8-10 years. This means that you may go through 2-3 storage hot water heaters in the lifecycle of one tankless device. No Energy Waste: you conserve energy by simply heating up the water when you need it. While container water heater waste power heating water you aren’t using, the tankless unit save energy by only making use of gas when you need warm water. Saves Space: tankless devices can be put almost anywhere in your home. It can be hung up on the wall, either inside or outside your house (depending on your location). Consequently, you gain useful flooring or storage room space. By contrast, a storage water heater is very bulky; a 40-60 gallon tank measures on average 60″ tall and 24″ wide (most of them are installed on the floor).

Risks and Problems: Orangeburg Pipe [Updated] The Orangeburg pipe situation has been a financial boon for plumbers and a financial burden for homeowners. Named after the town of Orangeburg, New York, where it was first produced, the pipe has about a fifty-year life span. Since the last of the Orangeburg piping was put down in the 1970s, the most recent installations are going to be facing their expiration very soon. If ignored, they could result in an extremely messy and extremely expensive sewer line collapse. A Quick Recap on the Orangeburg Pipe Problem Made of wood pulp that has been sealed with coal tar,  Orangeburg  has been described by some plumbing professionals as nothing more than a “coal tar-impregnated toilet paper tube.” That it has lasted as long as it has is some sort of miracle, many say. While a form of Orangeburg (otherwise known as bituminous fiber pipe) has been around since the late 1800s, widespread usage of Orangeburg began during World War II due to a shortage of more cast iron materials, which were needed for the war effort. Following the war, Orangeburg continued to proliferate because it was cheap. Sewer piping tends to be “out of sight, out of mind” until there’s, at a minimum, some sort of water backup. That’s just what happened to homeowner Erika Dronen. “We started having problems with our sewer line about a week after purchasing our home,” Dronen told  The Patch . “Black water started coming up from the drain in our basement floor.

The holidays are a time to enjoy with friends and family. However, Thanksgiving, and other seasonal holidays, present the perfect recipe for costly and embarrassing plumbing failures. With a little planning and insight from industry experts, you can prevent yourself from holiday hassles. Here are the top four tips from The Sunny Plumber to keep your pipe dreams in check. What’s the No. 1 issue consumers need to think about around the holidays to keep their plumbing working? One of the most common plumbing issues people face during the holidays is a clogged sink or malfunctioning garbage disposal. I always recommend being wary of the “FOG.” Fats, oils, and grease are your garbage disposals worst enemy. While this material is in liquid form when it’s initially poured into the disposal, it congeals into a viscous sludge as it cools. The FOG then sticks to the walls of the disposal chamber, as well as the walls of the drain pipe. This can gum up the impeller, as well as clog the drain.

Through many years of being the official flashlight holder, I became a skilled HVAC technician, learned invaluable business lessons and, ultimately, how to be the best at what I do and make customers happy. By the way, the boy on the logo is a digital re-creation of my son, Duncan, when he was 10 years old. I’m pretty sure he resembled me at that age. Q: Besides learning from your father, do you have any formal education in air-conditioning and plumbing? Do you think that having a technical background is essential to running the business side of things, and if so, why? A: My formal education in the trades came from the “school of hard knocks,” which I believe I may have enough credits (from) to earn a doctorate. I have attended many trade-related continuing education courses over the years and have read something trade-related every night for 25 years. Most of my management team, however, has no experience or training in the trades. It’s just a different skill set — leading Gordontheplumber.com Naperville Illinois Dupage County and managing people, as opposed to knowing the trades. North Korean television reported his heroic deeds, showing him dropkicking a dragon that had been devastating at least two small North Korean cities; saving a horde of thankful and beautiful women, all of whom had been hanging off cliffs; and rolling in a large pile of money while thankful children looked on.  “Unstable?” said President Obama in a press conference to alleviate the international embarrassment. “From what I’ve been reading in North Korean newspapers, Kim Jong is as stable and good-looking as it gets.” At press time, the North Korean leader was announcing the release of a “real life video game” which would feature worldwide nuclear assault. Pope to usher in new age of judgement, piety and hypocrisy. On Wednesday white smoke rose from the Vatican signaling the beginning of a new reign for the Catholic Church. One that will surely usher in the judgment and sanctimony long asked for by Catholics everywhere. “I plan to lead a more progressive church,” newly elected Pope Jorge Bergoglio said in his inaugural speech. “Hating on the ethnics is so outdated, we instead are turning our attention to the 21st century abomination, homosexuals.” This came as a surprise to many bishops who try not to talk about that, “seeing as that thing with the alter boys got a little dicey.” However Pope Bergoglio is a strong advocate of homophobia, and promises by the end of his reign, “everyone will be a bigot.”   As tensions build in the Korean Peninsula, a South Korean plays Starcraft There’s a lot going on in the Korean peninsula these days. Every day North Korea seems to be gearing up more and more for some weird modern war with their generally just kind of nice but eccentric neighbors. The Onteora Sewer had the privilege of interviewing a South Korean during this crisis. When asked about the impending war he looked up weary-eyed from his computer screen and said, “Yeah, the North Koreans are rough.” Turning back quickly, he took a big ol bite out of some greasy-ass pizza, pressed a few keys, and shouted, “Fuck the Terrans, Zergs for life bitch,” and won the hell out of a game of Starcraft. Enthralled with the skillful gamesmanship, our reporter continued watching, giving advice occasionally, but mainly basking in the heartfelt devotion that was a video game being played right.

Obama and Putin spend romantic weekend together after accidental booking of couples retreat. An error last weekend led to the booking of a couples weekend for world leaders Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin. The two planned to focus on increasing diplomatic relations between the US and Russia in coming months and years. “The weekend was lovely,” a relaxed and lackadaisical Obama told reporters. “Watching the sun set in our side by side bathtubs really allowed me and Vlad to get down to the real issues.” Although the summit meeting had a rocky start when Mr. Putin found it difficult to fall asleep in the shared heart-shaped water bed, the ocean sound generator provided by the resort quickly calmed him down. The retreat, rumoured to have involved deep tissue massages and detoxifying seaweed body wraps is being praised by US and Russian media alike as both nations look for stronger post-Cold War ties and more “quality time”.

It’s a plumbers’ go-to product and a homeowners best friend. It can also be used to create anything a DIYer can dream up (from wine racks to swingsets, check out some of the most creative and innovative uses for PVC piping on the internet). What makes PVC—or polyvinyl chloride , if you ever wondered—so Gordontheplumber.com Warrenville Illinois special? It’s lightweight, crush-resistant, affordable, and available in various lengths. It’s strong under pressure, and rust-proof. Plus, unlike copper tubing, PVC resists corrosion and is very long-lasting, with replacement taking nothing more than a cut and some glue. But before beginning your next project using PVC piping, here’s five things to remember, with some important tips along the way. When cutting a PVC pipe, you want to use a fine-tooth saw with a 3-4-inch long blade (longer than that and it’s likely to buckle). While novices may reach for a hacksaw, its thin blade easily wanders making awkward cuts which may not fit as snugly into the fitting. Pro Tip: If you plan to do a lot of work with PVC piping in the future, purchase a manual miter box and saw . It’s cheaper than a power miter saw, and can offer more accuracy; the box holds the pipe in place for square or angled cuts, and the saw blade is short and fine-toothed with extra support to avoid buckling.

I find electrical tape, duct tape, wooded supports trying to hold everything together and it all eventually fails. When I work with thin gauge tubular waste pipes I like to use either the supplied rubber or beveled nylon washers. I’ll apply some mega lock pipe joint compound the to male end threads, and after I make the up the nuts with my channel lock pliers or pipe wrench. they’re pretty darn secure. I test for leaks by filling and draining the sink a few times and all is good to go. Right? Not so fast! It doesn’t happen often but on some jobs I ultimately end up getting a callback because the pipe came loose or fell which frankly could not have happened unless stuff was getting thrown around. The kitchen base cabinet seems to be the place where all the misc. junk seems to find a home. You open the door throw everything in and close the door and eventually it all piles up in, around and on the drain pipes.

I was replacing two copper emergency water shut-off valves under a pedestal basin. There was approximately 2″ of copper sticking past the wall and I started with the hot water on the left side. The old valve came off without incident and I quickly soldered the new one on. Lunch time! As I was cleaning up the area for my return I started to hear what sounded like a “crackling noise” and could not pinpoint what was happening. Well, my instincts took over, I put my ear up against the sheetrock wall above the sink and knew instantly that the fiberglass insulation was starting to burn. Without hesitation, I called down to the homeowner and told her to call the fire department and immediately grabbed my hammer to the wall above the sink. I reached in and pulled out the batt of insulation that was starting to take off and tossed it into the bathtub where I dowsed it with water. The fire dept arrived in record time and they came in gangbusters ready to destroy the place, but I begged them to hold off I’m pretty sure I solved the problem. They proceeded to look into the wall cavity with some infra-red heat detecting equipment and were satisfied that there was no need to open up walls.

5 Topics You Should Know Regarding Plumbing Today

But just because sewer pipes are “out of sight, out of mind” doesn’t mean they should be ignored. Here are six signs that your home may have leaking sewer pipes. You’ve checked the faucets, the toilet valves—even the outdoor spigots. Still, there’s that distinct sound of running water… and it’s driving you crazy! First, try taking an exact reading of your water meter. Then, avoid using the water and check it again in a couple hours. If it’s unchanged, the sound you hear is something other than water; if the reading is different, then water is flowing and you likely have a leak in the sewer line. If areas of the floor feel moist underfoot and you’re sure that Fido hasn’t just relieved himself there, you’re probably looking at sewer leakage. When you notice these damp spots, don’t just put down a towel and brush it off; if you allow more moisture to build up, then it will cause mold or mildew to grow in your home which can be extremely toxic especially to those with weakened immune systems. Foul, funky… whatever you call it, odd odors behind walls or under the floor are often caused by mold and mildew growth due to water damage and pockets of moisture. As with #2 above, it’s best to get to the root of the problem fast; after 48 hours, fungi begins to grow more rapidly.

Tankless water heater requires higher voltage power supply. As such, ensure you have large diameter gas supply lines. This will prevent them from injuries or tampering with temperature controls. The outlet water pipe can get boiling at times, which may pose a danger to children. Venting Features for Tankless Water Heater There are 2 options when it comes to venting a tankless water heater; direct and power venting. A Direct vent unit features an intake and exhaust vent since it pulls in air outside the building. Place the power vent unit in an area with enough air quantity for combustion processes. Unlike the former model, this one requires the exhaust vent only.

As tensions build in the Korean Peninsula, a South Korean plays Starcraft There’s a lot going on in the Korean peninsula these days. When Starcraft was finished, it was time for DotA, then World of Warcraft. It was a night of cheap food and sore backs. North Korea became the mother who tells you to get off the computer, who you ignore with all the stoicism and majesty of a goddamn Blue Crane flying in the air, free as the fucking wind. When the sunlight began to creep up on the horizon, our reporter had long since fallen asleep, leaving the South Korean alone with his thoughts. Looking over tenderly, he paused his game, got a blanket, and tucked the enterprising journalist in, fluffing a pillow and chuckling quietly to himself: “I don’t even remember why he’s here”, as he sat back down to the comfort and stability of his digital world.

I received two kits, a 15 piece multi tool saw blade set which consisted of three pieces each of five different blades. And a 10 piece bi-metal saw blade set all which consisted of one style blade. I tried each of the blades out on different materials such as 1/4″ plywood, 1″ X 3″ stock, 2″ X 4″ stock, 3/4″ p.v.c. and 1 1/2″ p.v.c. pipe, light gauge angle steel and finally 3/8″ threaded rod. I thought across the board they performed well but did find that the 10 piece bi-metal struggled a bit on the 3/8″ threaded rod. Don’t get me wrong, it made the cut but on threaded rod I’d probably use my hacksaw or sawzall. All in all for the the price point of these blades I thought they provided a a good value for a fraction of what the original Fein blades cost. Speaking of multi-tool blades or even tools for that matter, I see all to often that young apprentices and even seasoned tradespeople (myself included) often like to push the boundaries of what the blade or tool was designed to do.

A bonus point is that you’ll never run out of hot water for a bath Gordontheplumber.com Westmont Illinois Dupage County or laundry. This is quite the opposite with the of a traditional water heater. Here, once the water in the tank runs out, you’ll have to substitute it with cold water if you’re not patient enough to wait for the unit to fill and heat 50 gallons of water again. With proper maintenance , a traditional water heater may last between 10- 13 years which is quite good. On the hand, a tankless water heater lasts close to two decades which is even better. Figuratively, your kids grow up and go to college while still using the tankless water heater! Even better, compared to the traditional models, tankless units rarely run into problems. This again increases your savings which you would spend on other key projects. Space is of great concern in any home whether you live in the countryside or you’ve rented a downtown apartment.

An inspector will not approve of an S-trap. If you currently have an S-trap in your home and are having problems with sewer gases or slow drainage, you might want to consider having your plumbing updated to fit current codes. I will explain more about the system and how it works in other posts. TL:DR? It is important for drains to be properly vented to ensure efficient flow of water and air and prevent sewage and sewer gases from entering going back into the home. Plumbing for sinks in kitchen islands. While most of the time fixtures require the vent to go remain verticals up for a minimum of 6-inches above the flood level of the fixture, an exception is made for fixtures in islands where it would not be possible. In islands a loop vent is often used. In some situations people just use an Air Admittance Valve (AAV) but they are prohibited in some jurisdictions and can have mechanical failure. After the trap and a sufficient trap arm, a sanitary tee is attached to send the waste down and the vent up. Then some 45degree elbows are used to create a loop vent which should have a cleanout above the floor level.

Similar to backing-up plumbing, clogged drain may be another larger cause than just debris in the drain. This goes along the lines of tree roots getting into sewer lines, causing clogs and then eventually full blockages. If you suspect that there is a problem with your sewer system, give a trusted plumbing company a call. They will come out and initially use an auger to try to break up what ever is causing the blockage. However, in some causes the problem won’t be fixed by this method. So, they can use a camera inspection that shows exactly what and where the problem is. This helps reduce the damage to your yard by preventing unnecessary excavation. Not every plumbing company has the equipment to get the job done right. We at Express Plumbing Service do have all of the tools and the equipment to handle any plumbing problem you have.

In the second group, there are mixing valves which are designed to be installed at the point of use: faucets, tubs, showers, sinks... (pressure-balanced and thermostatic mixing valves). Devices mix cold water manually or automatically. The plumber will explain you everything important to know. The main principle of operation of these devices is blending hot water with cold water to get the safe temperature level. If you live with a child, an elderly person, or a member of a household with limited ability to take care of himself, let the plumber set maximum temperature to be lower than the standard one (38 °C / 100 °F may be a safe choice). Please note that there is quite a lot of confusion in terminology on this field – it is not clearly defined what names are used for which type of valves, so it is easiest to refer to the place where the valve is to be mounted – at the heat source, at point-of-use or for group of outlet fixtures. Some models of the water heaters come with the integral anti-scald device. So, if you want to protect yourself and your family from bacterial infection and scalding burns at the same time, consider installing devices which will control water heater temperature inside and outside of the appliance.

See costs in your areaStart Here - Enter Your Zip Code When it comes to choosing a water heater, you may be tempted to go for the lowest price. However, remember, with these devices, cheap – usually means low or mediocre quality parts and materials that will not last too long after the warranty runs out. If you want the lowest price, home improvement stores, such as Lowe’s or Home Depot, are your best bet. However, if you want a hot water heater that will last for many years, it is best to pay more and get it from a wholesale HVAC supplier and installer. One of the easiest ways to distinguish a cheap lower-quality water heater from its high-end counterpart, is by weight. High quality, expensive water heaters weigh a lot more, because they use heavy duty parts and materials to manufacture the device, making it a lot more durable. Also, keep in mind than a tankless unit can cost 2-3 times as much as a standard tank style unit. Moreover, an electric tank unit costs 15-25% less than a gas tank unit of the size capacity. Gordontheplumber.com Winfield Illinois Dupage County In a straightforward comparison, a tank-style hot water heater costs MUCH less to install than a tankless unit.

So my usual morning routine goes something like this. Travel from my home in Staten Island into Brooklyn hit the local Dunkin Doughnuts at about 6:40 am and in the office by 7:50/7:00 am depending on traffic. Prepare my breakfast (usually egg whites and some fruit) then grab my large black hot coffee and hit the desktop. First, it’s Desk.com to check and answer any email inquiries from BobPlumbingVideos.com, over to YouTube to check viewer comments and finally over to FaceBook to check on any inquiries from my Robert Sessa Plumbing and BobsPlumbingVideos profiles. Unscrew it, install the extender on top, and then replace the bowl. What if you think your P-trap is blocked? To find out for sure, you’ll need to dump water down the drain. You might be surprised by what you find. If the opening isn’t blocked, get off the roof, activate your garden hose, and bring it on up, taking care not to slip by the wet surface the hose creates. Since it was launched in Arizona in 2013, the plumbing company has already reached markets in Nevada and California. Rather, company executives are banking on expertise and a sunny disposition to power their expansion. Ken Goodrich is the driving force behind The Sunny Plumber’s ambitious growth plan. The entrepreneur, who grew up in his father’s air-conditioning business, has founded a succession of successful heating-ventilation-air conditioning firms and plumbing companies, including acquisitions in Arizona in 2013 that introduced The Sunny Plumber to Tucson and Phoenix.

5 Things On Home Improvement Plumbing

We were told we had Orangeburg piping and the tree roots in our yard were crushing it. At this point, we have spent over $20,000 in sewer line repairs and the replacement of carpet and furniture.” So what can you do to avoid facing a problem like Erika?

If you have a 10ft x 10ft deck or patio, you’ll typically use around 10 nozzles (1 nozzle every 3 feet for 30ft of tubing around the perimeter of the area). The pump and 1 GPH nozzles will use roughly 16-1/4 gallons of water every hour. Significantly less than running your central air conditioner for an hour. As previously mentioned, once you’ve got your system all planned out, most misters are easy to Gordontheplumber.com Commercial Plumbing install and operate. If you are an experienced DIY’er you may not even need a kit to set up your own mister, and oftentimes the system can be run right from the hose bibb on the side of your house – ideal for those who will only be using the mister three or four months out of the year since you don’t have to invest in an expensive pump. The mister system can be winterized if needed, similarly to a drip irrigation or other garden watering system, and because the actual water lines are generally made from poly tubing or PVC the system can last you a long time with proper maintenance. Sometimes, depending on the types and placement of plants, your misting system can double as a watering system, helping to keep your plants lush and green. Of course, the most obvious and possibly most important benefit of a mister is that it allows you to enjoy your outdoor space regardless of how hot it is. Depending on the size of your space and what kind of system you want, misters can get pricey very quickly. Usually, the most expensive part of the system is the pump. While low pressure mister systems operate off your home’s natural water pressure, most people will need a pump to make their misting system truly effective, as the small, fine water droplets required for quick evaporation cannot be achieved by low water pressure.

Solar water heaters are widely used in Israel and Middle East, where sunlight is abundant, and gas/electricity is expensive. Israelis perfected the efficiency and cost of these units. This video was recorded in Israel’s solar village in Negev Desert. See how water is heated to boiling temperature in less than 2 minutes: In the United States, we have slightly different design of these unit, which typically use vacuum solar tubes, that transfer heat to either directly to water that circulates through copper pipes, or to heating liquid, that runs through storage tank, and heats up the water. When sun is down, and you need hot water, an auxiliary electric heating element turns on, to bring up the temperature in the tank. Common Factors that Impact Hot Water Heater Installation Cost How much new water heater installation costs? See costs in your areaStart Here - Enter Your Zip Code You can expect to pay more for installation of a new unit, if any of the following factors are present: It takes a lot longer (average 8-10 hours) to install a tankless hot water heater than a storage tank unit (average 2-3 hours). The reason it takes so long is because a plumber needs to install a dedicated gas line (if one was not there before), install proper venting and any necessary electrical work. What Size and Type Water Heater Should You Get? When choosing your water heater tank type and size, the rule of thumb is that it should provide enough hot water for all household members and appliances in a way that is efficient, and does not waste energy or water. Typically, if your household is 1-2 people, a 40 gallon unit capacity is enough.

All jokes aside, a running toilet is wasteful. A leading factor in high water bills , running toilets left unrepaired can cost you hundreds of dollars in water usage each year—and it could all be due to your toilet flapper. The flapper is the rubber valve in the tank that raises and lowers with each flush, managing the amount of water flow into the bowl. But a worn flapper can’t perform as designed, allowing leakage and seepage that keeps the water running. Thankfully, flapper valves are very inexpensive and easily installed; look for them at your local home improvement or hardware store. It’s bad enough when it happens at your own home; but have you ever flushed at a friends’ home only to be faced with the horror of a partial flush?  A partial flush is often due to an over-saturated flapper restricting flow between tank and bowl. Roughly 80 percent of over-saturated flappers cover the water flow pipe prematurely, cutting off bowl flow. A simple flapper replacement can fix it up. Flapper not the fix?

Consequently, you gain useful flooring or storage room space. By contrast, a storage water heater is very bulky; a 40-60 gallon tank measures on average 60″ tall and 24″ wide (most of them are installed on the floor). Cleaner Water: traditional water heating units could build up corrosion and scale inside the storage tank, contaminating the water stored in it. This is why, you sometimes see rusty water coming out of your faucet or shower. By contrast, you will not have this issue with a tankless device; your water will always be fresh and clean. Disadvantages of a Tankless Hot Water Heater As with any device, a tanless water heater has its own set of disadvantages, that may not make it the right option for every household. Initial High Cost: The biggest drawback to switching to a tankless water heating systems is that the purchase and setup prices are dramatically higher than what you would pay for a storage model. The average cost of a tankless unit together with installation can run $2,500-4,000 (a large portion of the cost goes to expensive installation). By comparison, you can purchase and install a 40-60 gallon storage tank for $800-1,500. The price difference is the primary reason why most homeowners stay away from tankless heaters. Limited Water Output: a typical tankless device usually supplies enough hot water to only one location.

As you can see in the picture, it is simply a porcelain hole in the ground. It is like a toilet bowl built into the floor instead of above it. You’ll always know where your keys are with this handy hint! To make Lego keychains, start by drilling a hole into the base of a Lego that is slightly smaller than the screw potion of an eyelet screw. Next, wind the eyelet screw into the lego. Thread a split ring through the hole and use it to attach keys. Mount the lego board to a surface using your preferred method. In this case, we mounted our lego plate to the wall in our mud room. Attach the lego board to the wall by first marking the desired location for the board and making sure that it is level. Drill pilot holes in the four corners of the lego board and into the wall. To finish, drill screws with small enough heads to fit in between the lego pegs into the board. You’ll be so excited to put the Lego on the Lego board that you won’t lose your keys (hopefully) ever again!

A: Our business model is both plumbing and HVAC service and modernization. We have identified and implemented many synergies that make the model less cyclical due to weather, as compared to an HVAC-only operation. We made the decision to brand the two trades differently because the consumer focus groups we commissioned early on suggest that most consumers have their plumbing company and their HVAC company. They believe that no one can be an expert at both, and I happen to agree. Q: What is your ultimate goal for Goettl Air Conditioning and The Sunny Plumber? Are you ever concerned that your company might get too big? A: Our ultimate goal is to bring our brand, our unique customer-centric culture and processes across the nation and become the gold standard for home service in the U.S. With regards to being concerned about growing too big, our decentralized model puts the local management on the frontline with our customers, as most of our smaller competitors are structured. To a customer in any market we serve, the relationship is transparent, as they will be dealing with a local crew making swift decisions on their behalf.

Annual operation costs will be affected by the type of fuel or energy you use, but so does the water heater’s energy efficiency and its size. The type of fuel and the availability of that fuel may help you choose a water heater. There are a number of water heat options out there. This makes gas heaters a lot more convenient and reliable for larger households that use a lot of water at the same time. Save Money on Operating Costs: while an electric heater is more energy efficient than a Gordontheplumber.com Fox Valley IL 60599 gas one, high costs of electricity, make gas devices a lot cheaper to operate. On average, across the US, it costs about 30% less to operate a gas powered hot water heater than an electric one. This figure may be higher or lower depending on the cost of electricity in your location. Keep in mind, that the lower operating costs are for models that use natural gas, as opposed to propane. In most areas propane gas is equally as expensive or more expensive than electricity. Quick Recovery Rate: a gas water heater can recover at 3-4 times the rate of a comparable electric device. An average electric tank recovers 14 gallons/hr, compared to 50 gallons/hr for a gas model. Thus, a gas heater allows you to get more hot water from a smaller size tank, which is more energy efficient.

Steer clear of lumber and landscape timbers stamped or tagged "treated to refusal"; it's a vague term and guarantees no specific level of treatment. Space Balls are hard rubber balls—about the size of a miniature pea—used to help center the panels in frame-and-panel cabinet doors and prevent them from rattling. The panels in raised and flat-panel cabinet doors are purposely left loose so they can expand and contract—without impacting the frame—as humidity levels rise and fall. In the "dry season"—when panels are at their smallest size—they can shift around and rattle annoyingly. The space balls—installed as the door is assembled—are large enough to fill the gap between frame and door, yet flexible enough to "give" when the panel expands. The term cornice comes from the Italian word meaning "ledge" and usually refers to some type of horizontal decorative molding. Such moldings may be three-foot-wide concrete bands adorning the top of a 30-story skyscraper or 6-inch sections of wood trim covering a drapery rod over living room windows. By definition, the fascia or eaves around any house can be called cornices, but the term is usually reserved for architectural details with a more decorative flare; your neighbors would probably think you're stuck up or weird if you tell them you're going out to hang holiday lights on your cornice. This guide teaches you how to build window cornices. Drip cap is an L-shaped flashing that goes over windows and doors after they're installed (but before siding is installed) to prevent moisture from seeping in from above.

This can happen in many ways such as when shutting off a faucet abruptly, a quick closing toilet refill valve, a commercial toilet flushometer. But one of the most common culprits and cause of Water Hammer is your washing machine. Washing Machines come equipped with very fast closing electronic valves and the higher your incoming water pressure the higher the risk of noise and damage to your plumbing system. This sudden pressure surge will cause unsecured pipes to vibrate severely and depending on the material and how old the plumbing system even break causing thousands in water damage. The higher the incoming water pressure the more likely you’ll experience Water Hammer. Most plumbing codes require the use of water hammer arresters be plumbed into the plumbing system either individually or for a bank of plumbing fixtures. Water Hammer arresters can be fabricated in the field by simply taking a piece of pipe approximately 18″-24″ inches in length and capping one end. That piece of pipe would be installed into a tee connection above where a fixture supply would stub out of a wall. When the system is filled with water, that piece of pipe would become half filled with air thus creating a cushion to take up the shock of the water.
